The Polish Breslau begins in a superb location, Borne Sulinowo. It is an area full of history, and the event site is on a large assembly area in front of some fantastic ruined buildings, their windowless openings casting long shadows in the morning light, forming a superb backdrop to the bright colours, bustle of activity and noise of the International Polish Breslau Adventure Rally.

For those arriving on Thursday and Friday, Local Polish living history experts arranged superb tours of the historic bunkers that are found in this area, part of recent history when they were built along with dams as part of Germany’s Ost Wall defences. 

Friday is all about the excitement of arrival, getting the bikes, SSV’s, 4x4’s, light and heavy trucks stickered with the sponsors names and scrutineering on the site at Borne Sulinowo a thorough polite and pleasant experience. The joy of meeting old friends, making new ones from many countries and the ambiance of it all  makes the motto, “Breslau, It’s my Race” totally true.

Alan Coutts talks to a group of British Bikers, here to live the Breslau Rally life to the full. One of them, “Mike the Bike” sustained a bit of body damage last year, but is back again as keen as ever. Mike pilots a well tried and tested or abused, depending on one’s viewpoint, Husaberg FE450, Tony King and “taffy” David Lloyd from the Cambridge area pilot Husaberg FE570’s and are really looking forward to their first Breslau experience. Taffy said ” I like the Husaberg FE570 for  the way the engine is located in the chassis.it gives it good balance and a very light feeling, but it’s more awkward when you drop it! “

Tony loves trail riding in other parts of Europe such as Rumania, and Taffy is an Enduro man. Mike on the other hand, is a veteran of two previous Breslau rallies, and is someone who faces the tough conditions with a typical English understated approach.   ” it’s very hard, and you really feel you have achieved something if you can make it to the end.”  How true - the highs and lows, of the whole fantastic experience stays with the teams for ever.
